It’s Official: Fast Is Sexy
The BBC reports that researchers at the Institute of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Zurich asked people to rate the attractiveness of 80 cyclists who competed in the 2012 Tour de France. They discovered that participants rated riders who finished in the top 10 percent of the race on average 25 percent more attractive than riders who finished in the bottom 10 percent. According to the study, the hottest man of the race was French rider Amael Moinard, who finished 45th; other riders in the top 10 included Christophe Riblon, who won the stage on Alpe d’Huez last year, Adam Hansen (named one of Bicycling‘s Sexiest Men of the Tour), and 2013 world champion Rui Costa.
Condoms By Bike
Need protection in a hurry? California’s L Condoms now delivers, on two wheels. If you live in selected areas of San Francisco or Los Angeles, the company’s bike messengers will bring a discreetly packaged condom to your door in less than an hour, for a $5 delivery fee (condom prices start at $15 for a dozen). Chocolates and flowers can also be included, and for every condom you purchase, one is distributed in a developing country in need. Visit San Francisco Weekly for more information.
While Presidents’ Day honorees George Washington and Abraham Lincoln unfortunately never got the chance to enjoy the modern bicycle, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima of the Netherlands have been spotted all over Sochi (and Twitter) on their orange cruisers:
Australian company Gazelle makes the Dutch-style bikes, which were given to every member of the Dutch Olympic team. Even if you don’t speak their language, this video of the team receiving their new wheels is guaranteed to make you smile.
